Visualising data is quite a hype these days. One of the most usable data representation I find is the RSS Voyage.

Add an RSS feed into the Flash application, and it will allow you to visualise the entries by time and date. Simply using your mouse-roller to move back and forth the timeline, move your mouse and click accordingly to the desired entry. Nice, attractive, and very easy to use. Very practical for RSS feeds for some use cases.

Another use case for such visualisation is for emails. Very attractive, and reading emails will never be the same ever again! Much more practical and cooler than 3D Mailbox.

The panel explored the impact of virtual worlds on society, and is well worth watching. The YouTube video was edited down by Nick Yee, one of the panellists, who realised it would not be aired inside the US!

Something odd is starting to happen when car manufacturers start publishing guides to virtual worlds.

Car-maker Vauxhall has published the online Corsa Guide to Getting a (Second) Life. It claims to be the first handbook for leisure voted for by the residents themselves. For a four-week period, SL residents voted for their favourite locations within the virtual community at Corsa voting kiosks throughout Second Life. In total, over 2,000 votes were received, a healthy figure.

So here’s the top ten they came up with (with direct links into Second Life):

1. Luskwood (a community where residents dress up as animals)

2. Blarney Stone (a recreation of a Dublin drinking den)

3. Bora Bora Wavelabs (a hot spot for surfing)
